Product Description Maybe you thought that after you graduated -- whether from high school, college, or even grad school -- you'd never have to do a math problem again. Then you went to work or had to manage the family finances and discovered that every day brings with it some kind of math problem. With Everyday Math For Dummies, you can forget about math anxiety as you discover how to do all kinds of math problems -- even the math underlying gambling and professional sports, like baseball, basketball, and football. And you may be more than a little surprised by how interesting, enlightening, and fun math can be when you get a handle on such things as calculating mortgages and returns on investments, and when you can distinguish between meaningful statistics in the news and those that just don't make any sense. Plus, Everyday Math For Dummies comes complete with a tear-out Cheat Sheet for you to keep handy for when the kids need help with their homework or you need help completing your tax return or figuring a tip.

Great Book for Teachers March 2, 2003 L. Robinson (Clemmons, NC United States) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I was looking for a supplemental text to teach my 7th graders about practical math. This is it! I use this book to develop applied projects for students. This book helps answer the question: "When will I ise this stuff?"
On the money December 31, 1999 17 out of 24 found this review helpful
The really strong feature of this book is the attention to consumer finance issues, like credit card management and car leasing. You probably don't care about trigonometry once you're out of high school, but you WILL want to save money buying a car. Also, don't miss the chapter on gambling!
Provides Much Helpful Information August 10, 2007 Patrice Fagnant-macarthur (Springfield, MA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
My son picked up "Everyday Math for Dummies" at the library. He saw the word "Math" and had to have it. Once he saw that it contained more words than numbers, however, he put it down. As I flipped through it I decided I would bring it home anyway, if only for the chapter on balancing your checkbook, a task I have always struggled to master. This is actually a very good book, providing an introduction to the Math that you wish that they would teach you in school - like how to balance a checkbook, figure out compound interest (OK - I think they taught that one in school but it had little real-world applicability at that point), and how to understand stock values and mortgage rates. And for those of you who really want to understand what they wanted to teach you in Algebra and Trig, it provides sections on that as well (I'll admit I skipped over those). I read the reviews on Amazon and some mentioned that it wasn't simple enough. I can understand that. You do need some understanding of basic math to get this book - adding, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages are all taken for granted here. Still, it was very interesting and helped explain some topics that had eluded me for years.
Peter Roth's Book Review July 26, 2006 Peter Roth (Wenatchee, WA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
All-in-all, a good book. I still had some difficulty in reading the author's explanations.
Good for people who like me had poor math skills. November 26, 2008 Napoleon (Marseille,France.) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Good explanations for a math dummy who used to get poor grades in school many years ago. I don't want to die dumb...
